Hello all,
I am so terribly sorry that we have not made much car progress lately. Between the heat and humidity and the almost constant threat of rain, we have not been able to roll the cars out of the garage to work on them. But fear not! Drier conditions and lower humidity SHOULD enable us to move forward with our project.
So, I bet you are wondering what we have been doing all this time... Well, besides working and all that un-fun stuff! We took a couple short trips and are looking forward to a quick Puerto Rico trip in a couple weeks. We have found that short trips are WAY more fun and less expensive than really long ones. LOL
Our last trip at the beginning of October, I absolutely have to tell you about. We went to Helen, Georgia for an Oktoberfest that was fantastic. I would highly highly recommend this to anyone. A little history of Helen GA, was a SMALL mining town that decided in the 1960's to re-invent themselves as an Alpine Village in the Appalachians. for those who doubt, check these out:
Now this is a small town, full time residents report to be around 500, but during festival times the town swells to a bustling little place. I had a great time!!! I would recommend getting a hotel in town as it is completely walkable and if you are there for the weekend, staying in town would be totally worth it.
Of course there is beer, and a lot of it, but if you decide to go, make sure you stop into the Hofbrauhaus Germany GI Pub towards the end of town for the apple strudel, they import it from Germany and it is SO good!!!
The shops are cute and the beer is great, here are our best bear faces:
LOL! We had fun....
We also went the Unicoi State Park just outside Helen and we REALLY wanted to hike up to Anna Ruby falls, but we were unaware those falls are actually in a National Forest, which was closed due to the Government shutdown.
I took some nice nature shots and some artsy ones:
The body of water is Lake Unicoi and here are some photos of the Chattahoochee River that runs through the town of Helen:
I mentioned it is quite picturesque and relaxing there right?!?!?
